Hi, I'm Helen.
I'm an artist based in Stroud, I create intuitive abstract paintings, that feel calming and uplifting.
I love making marks and mixing different colour combinations to express emotions. When I'm in flow I forget everything else and its a wonderful feeling that I'm addicted to.
I'm influenced by my external surroundings and my roots on Cornwall growing up by the sea run deep
Through my paintings I'd like the viewer to feel some of the the energy I draw from my art practice.
Working in my studio in Stroud UK my practice is intuitive, using gestural brushwork and mark making.
I allow myself to play and explore, expressing emotions I’m feeling in the moment. Discovering marks, textures and colour combinations that feel inviting.
The process is therapeutic and grounding, it brings me into the present moment. I build layers creating an exciting surface to work with, then stand back and start to edit. Bringing in more delicate, calm considered marks, whilst trying to keep the feeling of freshness and spontaneity. Always searching for balance between movement and stillness.
